On October 12, the new central platform of China’s first offshore carbon injection and gas enhancement demonstration project at the Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field underwent commissioning in COOEC ’s high-end equipment base in Qingdao. Weighing nearly 17,000 tons, the platform is designed to capture associated carbon dioxide from the gas field. After purification and pressurization, the CO₂ is injected back into subsurface formations to boost natural gas recovery and enable geological CO₂ storage. Once operational, the project will sequester over one million tons of carbon dioxide annually, serving as a key demonstration for deep decarbonization in the marine energy sector.
