Weifang has a long history and rich cultural heritage. After research, validation, and expert evaluation, Weifang Museum selected four major treasures of the museum, one of which is the Reddish-Brown Pottery Gui(vessel)from the Neolithic Dawenkou Culture.
The artifact measures 20.7 cm in width and 21.0 cm in height, crafted from reddish-brown pottery mixed with fine sand. It features a bird-beak-shaped short spout, appearing triangular in side view; a slightly flared mouth, trumpet-shaped short neck, flat and round bulging belly, low crotch, short and thick legs, and a bridge-shaped long handle. The lower neck in front of the spout is adorned with a prominent nipple pattern, a string pattern above, deeper stamped patterns on the sides of the lower end, and additional applied patterns around the junction of the belly and handle.
The artifact features a low and squat body, resembling a plump bird resting on the ground and gazing up at the sky. Its unique shape and intricate patterns make it a significant piece for verifying Weifang as the origin of the World Kite Capital.
