UN Chinese Language Day to highlight fine Chinese culture in Vienna

The 2023 Chinese Language Day “Home of Confucius, Hub of the Belt & Road -- A Real Story of the Global Civilization in UN” is expected to take place at the United Nations in Vienna on May 2. Co-organized by the Permanent Mission of The People's Republic of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna and Shandong Provincial People’s Government.

The event will showcase the profound culture, wonderful scenery and long history of Shandong, the hometown of Confucius and hub of the Belt & Road, and vividly tell the real story of exchanges and mutual learning between the Chinese civilization and the global civilization.

There will be four comprehensive exhibitions on Chinese characters, Friendly Shandong, Qilu culture and calligraphy and paintings of famous artists. A series of cultural activities including Nishan World Civilization Forum, symposium in memory of internationalist warrior Jakob Rosenfeld, lecture on traditional Chinese medicine, and Shandong characteristic folk music performance. The event will highlight the high degree of ideological compatibility between Confucianism and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and further explore the practical significance of fine traditional Chinese culture to today’s world.

Chinese Language Day has become a window for people to learn about Chinese culture. Every year around Chinese Language Day on April 20, a series of activities are launched at UN headquarters to highlight the charm of Chinese language and culture.
