A masterpiece of ancient Chinese ink painting has been recreated at a venue for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games and Hangzhou Asian Para Games.

Using more than 34,000 aluminum alloy grilles, the curtain wall of the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, showcases the majesty of the image of "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains," one of the greatest works by renowned Chinese painter Huang Gongwang (1269–1354).

The famous painting depicts the scenery of the Fuchun Mountains along the Fuchun River in Fuyang, Hangzhou, where the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center is located.

By presetting specific rotational axis angles for each of the grilles and using technology such as digital simulation and module control, the designer uses different projection areas to outline the images of undulant mountains, which vary throughout the day due to the different angles of sunlight hitting it. The facade of the building is illuminated after dusk to show the images of the mountains.

The Fuyang Yinhu Sports Center will host competitions for the shooting, archery and modern pentathlon events during the Asian Games, as well as the shooting and archery competitions for the Asian Para Games.

Completed in around 1350, "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" was ordered to be burned by collector Wu Hongyu on his deathbed 300 years later. It was saved by a nephew of Wu, but the painting had been separated into two pieces by the fire.

The smaller piece, namely "The Remaining Mountain," is currently held in the Zhejiang Provincial Museum in Hangzhou, while the larger piece known as "The Master Wuyong Scroll," is conserved in Taipei's Palace Museum.

"The Remaining Mountain" is currently on display in the Zhejiang Provincial Museum and is open to the public until September 29.

Visitors can also view the complete version of the painting recreated using digital technology.
