Shandong’s foreign trade increased by 13.7% year on year in Q1

A press conference was held on April 18 by the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government to brief on the overall situation of Shandong’s foreign trade in the first quarter of this year.

Zhang Yibing, deputy commissioner of Jinan Customs, said at the press conference that in the first quarter of 2022, the foreign trade import and export value of Shandong Province was 710.65 billion yuan, an increase of 13.7% over the same period last year, 3 percentage points higher than the national overall growth rate. Shandong’s import and export value accounts for 7.5% of the country’s total, an increase of 0.2 percentage points over the same period last year, and ranks 6th in the country.

Shandong’s export value in the first quarter of 2022 was 417.91 billion yuan, an increase of 22.2%; its import value was 292.74 billion yuan, an increase of 3.4%. The the trade surplus was 125.17 billion yuan, an increase of 113%. Shandong’s foreign trade growth rate ranks 6th among the top 10 provinces and cities in China’s foreign trade, and the export and import growth rates rank 4th and 8th respectively.

Zhang said that in the first quarter, Shandong’s foreign trade import and export mainly featured more coordination in the development of regional foreign trade, relative stability in general trade, rapid growth in the import and export through bonded logistics, further enhanced vitality of private enterprises, and sustained growth in the import and export to major trade markets such as the ASEAN.

Zhang said that the growth in Shandong’s foreign trade can be attributed to the steady growth in the export of main products and the major driving force of high-tech products.
