According to a press conference held on March 31 by the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, Shandong has given full play to its role as the national base of “vegetable basket”, and has established a joint guarantee and supply mechanism for vegetables for Shanghai and Jilin Province, which are hard-hit by the COVID-19 epidemic.

On the basis of making all efforts to ensure the stable and smooth operation of existing supply channels and supply chains, Shandong has quickly established a joint guarantee and supply mechanism for vegetables for Shanghai and Jilin Province, designated five market guarantee bases in cities including Weifang and Linyi, and organized 40 supply-guaranteeing vehicles to ensure that emergency supplies were met.

Shandong Province produces more than 150 kinds of vegetables in 13 categories, with the planting area of vegetables stable at about 22 million mu, and the total output stable at more than 80 million tons all year round. At present, the growth of spring seedlings in the province is significantly better than expected. It is estimated that the area of spring-sown vegetables in the province is 14.23 million mu, an increase of 52,800 mu over the previous year.
