On January 26, the Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department of Shandong Province held a work conference on housing and urban-rural development of the province. According to the conference, in 2021, the province saw 7 new domestic waste treatment facilities newly built, with an additional processing capacity of 5,100 tons per day, and the incineration rate of urban and rural domestic waste reaching 90%.

The three national key cities, Jinan, Qingdao, and Tai’an, basically established a household waste classification system; the five provincial pilot counties (cities, districts) had 100% and 93.4% respectively of towns & sub-districts and administrative villages carrying out classification of domestic waste; all counties (cities, districts) started classification of domestic waste.

Besides, in 2021, the housing departments of Shandong Province have promoted the signing of green and low-carbon development cooperation framework agreement between the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Shandong Province, successfully held the Sino-German Matchmaking and Exchange Meeting on Building Energy Efficiency. Qingdao was approved as China’s first pilot city of green city construction and development.
