Shandong announces the first batch of underwater cultural relics protection zone

According to a press conference held on January 20 by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong Province, Shandong has officially approved and announced the sixth batch of major sites protected for their historical and cultural value at provincial level, including 257 sites, as well as 4 sites incorporated into the existing major sites protected for their historical and cultural value at the provincial level, and the first batch of underwater cultural relics protection zone, including 1 zone.

Shandong’s sixth batch of major sites protected for their historical and cultural value at provincial level includes 39 ancient sites, 21 ancient tombs, 85 ancient buildings, 6 stone cave temples and stone carvings, and 106 important historical sites and representative buildings of modern and contemporary times.

Up to now, the total number of major sites protected for their historical and cultural value in Shandong has reached 1,968, ranking first in China. The selection of the sixth batch of major sites protected for their historical and cultural value at provincial level highlighted the inheritance of revolutionary memory, and revolutionary cultural relics accounted for more than 30% of the total.
