10 historical sites in Shandong selected into national protection plan

The National Cultural Heritage Administration recently issued the “Special Plan for the Protection and Utilization of Major Historical Sites during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period”, planning that the overall pattern of protection and utilization of major historical sites will basically take shape by 2025.

According to the list of “Major Historical Sites during the 14th Five-year Plan Period” attached to the Special Plan, 145 major historical sites in provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, as well as 5 major historical sites across provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities have been selected for the protection and utilization of major historical sites during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period. Shandong Province has 10 historical sites selected, ranking third in the country in terms of number, following Henan Province, with 16 historical sites selected, and Shaanxi Province, with 15.

The 10 historical sites selected are Dawenkou historical site, Jiaojia historical site, Liangcheng Town historical site (including Yaowangcheng historical site), Chengziya historical site, Daxinzhuang historical site, Dongpingling Ancient City, Linzi Ancient City of the State of Qi, Qufu Ancient City of the State of Lu, and Yangjia Salt Industry historical sites group, Jimo Ancient City and Liuqu Mountain tombs (including the Langyatai historical site).

Shandong also has 5 major historical sites across provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities selected, namely the Great Wall, the Grand Canal, the Qinzhidao (the Artery of the Qin Dynasty), the Shudao (the Road(s) to Shu), and the coastal defenses of Ming and Qing dynasties.

According to the official definition, major historical sites mainly include historical sites, historical sites groups and cultural landscapes of large scale, great value and far-reaching influence such as large-scale settlements, city sites, palaces, mausoleums, and tombs, reflecting historical and cultural information in various development stages of ancient Chinese history involving politics, religion, military, science and technology, industry, agriculture, architecture, transportation, water conservancy, etc.
