At least 14 Chinese companies, counting among them a large number of internet firms, have donated a total of 415 million yuan ($64.41 million) in cash or goods to flood-hit Shanxi Province in North China as of Sunday evening.

Around 10 leading IT firms in China, including Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu, Pinduoduo and ByteDance, have donated cash to the Shanxi provincial charity authority, according to a report by domestic media outlet on Sunday.

The donations from the companies, ranging from 50 to 10 million yuan ($7.7 to $1.5 million), became one of the most viewed topics on China's Sina Weibo on Sunday.

Two local companies, baijiu-maker Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group and Shanxi Ruhe NEV, also made contributions.

Severe rainfall and floods in Shanxi have affected more than 1.76 million people as of Sunday, Xinhua News Agency reported. A total of 120,100 people have been relocated, 190,000 hectares of crops have been affected, and more than 17,000 houses have collapsed.

Sports brand Erke also donated 20 million yuan ($3.1 million) worth of goods including instant noodles and bottled mineral water.

Chinese businesses, led by giant internet platform companies, generously donated in July after torrential rainstorm and subsequent flooding hit Central China's Henan Province.
