The 4th China Opera Festival to kick off in Jinan on October 13th

According to a press conference held on October 8 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the 4th China Opera Festival will kick off in Jinan on October 13, 2021. The Festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Shandong Provincial People’s Government, undertaken by the Department of Art of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong Province, and the municipal people’s governments of Jinan, Qingdao, Zibo, Yantai, Weifang, Linyi, and Dezhou.

The China Opera Festival is a national art event in the field of opera, held every three years. Since 2011, three sessions have been held in Fujian, Hubei and Jiangsu. During the 4th Opera Festival, 24 excellent works of opera will be staged in 48 performances in 7 cities in Shandong, and a series of activities such as opera concerts, one commentary for one drama, training classes for creative talents of national opera, and people-benefiting performances will be held at the same time.

The repertoires of this year’s opera festival are diverse in styles, including classic works of Chinese and foreign opera such as “The White Haired Girl”, “Sister Jiang”, “Red Guards on Honghu Lake”, “The Lady with the Camellias”, as well as newly created repertoires since 2018, such as “The Path”, “Angel’s Diary”, “Three Locks”. A Classic National Opera Exhibition Week will be held during the event, focusing on displaying excellent works in the development history of Chinese national opera.
