Qufu hosts Confucius cultural festival, world civilization forum

The 2021 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and the 7th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations kicked off in Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius, in Jining, East China's Shandong province, on Sept 27.

With the theme of "Dialogue among civilizations and global cooperation", the 7th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations was held both on-site and online, consisting of 30 activities such as the opening and closing ceremonies, theme speeches, high-end dialogues, high-end interviews, interviews with diplomatic envoys, group dialogues, youth forums and youth interviews. The award ceremony of the UNESCO Confucius Prize For Literacy and Confucius Culture Week for Chinese and Foreign Young Students was held on the evening of Sept 27. The Forum on Traditional Chinese Medicine took place for the first time.

This year's cultural festival is themed around the celebration of the 2,572nd anniversary of the birth of Confucius, a great philosopher and educator in ancient China.

172 experts and scholars from 16 countries and regions participated in the event online and offline. The opening ceremony was attended by 38 foreign guests from 20 countries, including diplomatic envoys, heads of UNESCO Representative Office in China, experts and scholars from home and abroad, and members of the academic committee of the forum.

The Nishan Forum on World Civilizations has been playing a significant role in enhancing exchanges between different civilizations and building a harmonious world, said Liu Tingshan, deputy director of the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies.
