On August 30, the cultural ministers of China, Japan and South Korea jointly announced the cities awarded the title of “Culture City of East Asia” in 2022: Jinan and Wenzhou of China, Oita Prefecture of Japan, and Gyeongju of South Korea.

The selection of the “Culture City of East Asia” is an important brand activity in the cultural field of China, Japan and South Korea. Since its launch in 2013, each country has selected 1-2 cities as the “Culture City of East Asia” each year.

The selected cities carry out various cultural and tourism activities in the name of the “Culture City of East Asia”, through intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance, public cultural service system development, exchanges on cultural relic protection and utilization and urban planning, tourism promotion, and other activities, to encourage cities and citizens to participate more actively in East Asian regional cultural and tourism cooperation and expand the cities’ international reputation and popularity, thus benefiting the people and vitalizing the city through culture.
