Transaction of China’s first “Blue Carbon” project completed in Qingdao, Shandong

On June 8, the signing ceremony of the carbon emission reduction transfer agreement for the “Mangrove Afforestation Project of Zhanjiang, Guandong Province” was held in Qingdao, Shandong province, marking the completion of the transaction of the first “Blue Carbon” project in China.

According to experts, “Blue Carbon” refers to the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems such as seagrass meadow, mangrove forest, and salt marsh coastal zone. On June 8, the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Zhanjiang Mangrove National Nature Reserve, and Beijing Entrepreneur Environmental Protection Foundation (SEE Foundation) jointly held the signing ceremony of the carbon emission reduction transfer agreement for the “Mangrove Afforestation Project of Zhanjiang, Guandong Province”.

The project is China's first mangrove carbon sink project that meets the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate. It will be organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and completed in collaboration with Zhanjiang Mangrove National Nature Reserve, with the support of Department of Land and Space Ecological Restoration of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
