Conference on deepening cooperation between Shandong and HK, Macao and Taiwan to be held on March 23

According to a press conference held on 18th by the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, Shandong will hold the “Promotion Conference on Deepening Cooperation between Shandong and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan” on March 23. With the theme of “New Pattern, New Opportunity, New Development”, the conference aims to provide new opportunity and build new platform for further improvement of exchanges and cooperation between Shandong and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are important trading partners and sources of foreign capital of Shandong. In 2020, faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and profound changes in international situation, Shandong carried on deepening economic and trade cooperation with the three regions and achieved steady growth. Last year, Shandong’s total actual use of investment from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan was $13.68 billion, a year-on-year increase of 22.4%, accounting for 77.5% of the province’s total. Its import & export value with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan was 87.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39%, accounting for 4% of its total.

The conference will be held both online and field, with the main venue set in Jinan, where leaders of provincial Party committee and provincial people’s government, some of the invited guests, and major persons in charge in provincial departments and relevant enterprises will attend the conference. Branch venues will be set in 16 cities in Shandong, with guests from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan attending the conference online.

The conference will, focusing on key cooperation projects, invite guests in related fields, and invite guests directionally from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. As of March 18, representatives of 35 institutions and enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, including the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Macau Chinese Enterprises Association, etc., have registered to attend the conference at the main venue. More than 400 enterprises have registered to attend the conference online. It is estimated that more than 1,000 people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will participate online.

After preliminary match-making and negotiation, the projects expected to be signed on the conference will mainly involve equipment manufacturing, new generation of information technology, medical care and health, new energy, new materials, modern agriculture, modern marine industry, modern service industry and other fields.
