‘New Year Lectures’ wins viewers’ hearts with touching stories

A talk show that aired on China's Hunan Satellite TV on Sunday has captured the attention of netizens with lectures given by well-known figures such as China's top epidemiologist Zeng Guang, actor Qin Hao and William N. Brown, one of the first Westerners to get a green card for the People's Republic of China.

The hashtag for 2021 New Year Lectures has gained millions of views and discussions on Sina Weibo.

The latest show from the Tiantianxiangshang Studio, it aims to lift people's spirits at the beginning of 2021 as China fully recovers from the COVID-19 epidemic and allow audiences to learn more about how people in China made it through the past year.

Among the guest speakers are Cao Jinling, director of the documentary work Days and Nights in Wuhan, which shows people's experiences at the start of the coronavirus outbreak; Xu Ying, the expert behind China's BeiDou navigation system and Chinese pingpong legend Deng Yaping.

According to Zhao Yating, a producer with Tiantianxiangshang, the show hopes to get viewers involved through touching stories and talks.
