Air quality of Shandong improves in the 1st half of the year

On July 28th, the Information Office of the People’s Government of Shandong Province held a press conference to brief on Shandong’s eco-environmental quality in the first half of 2020.

According to the conference, from January to June 2020, the concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), inhalable particulate matter (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), and carbon monoxide (CO) in Shandong were 48, 88, 12, 28, 177 μg/m3 and 1.5 mg/m3 respectively, decreasing year-on-year by 17.2%, 20.0%, 25.0%, 22.2%, 4.8%, and 11.8% respectively. The average composite index of ambient air quality was 5.04, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%. The average number of days of heavy pollution was 5.6 days, a year-on-year decrease of 3.8 days. The average number of days with good air quality accounted for 67.2%, a year-on-year increase of 14.0%.

Of the cities in Shandong, Weihai, Yantai, Qingdao had better air quality while the air quality of Zibo was poor. Linyi, Weihai, Weifang made greater improvement in air quality, while Jining made smaller.
