According to Shandong Provincial Department of Finance, the province has recently allocated 13 million yuan to reward 13 projects that have won the first and second prizes of national natural science, technological invention as well as scientific and technological progress in 2019, and to which a Shandong-based unit is the first contributor.

According to statistics, Shandong has a total of 33 projects that won the national award in 2019, an increase of 8 from 2018. 13 of the national science and technology award projects are led by Shandong, the number reaching a new high and among the top in China.

The following are the three characteristics of the projects that have won the awards:

Science and technology play a significant role in improving the quality and efficiency of traditional industries. 23 major scientific and technological achievements have won national science and technology awards in industries with traditional advantages like chemical engineering, agriculture, manufacturing, and land and resources, continuing to maintain the national leading advantage.

Enterprises in Shandong have carried out closer industry-university research cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions. 36 enterprises have led or participated in the R&D, application and popularization of award-winning scientific and technological achievements.

Fruitful results have been achieved in the aspect of science and technology serving the strategy of rural revitalization. Agriculture-related competitive industries, represented by agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture, have won 9 national science and technology awards.
