From January to February, the total cargo throughput of coastal ports in Shandong Province reached 259 million tons, up 2.1 percent year on year. The container throughput was 4.59 million TEU, up 1.2 percent year on year. Qingdao Port achieved a cargo throughput of 92.68 million tons, up 1.7 percent year on year, while Rizhao Port achieved a cargo throughput of 78.97 million tons, up 4.6 percent year on year, and Yantai Port achieved a cargo throughput of 61.49 million tons, down 1.8 percent year on year.
In the same period, China’s coastal ports handled 1.342 billion tons of good and 31.19 million TEU containers, down 4.6 percent and 10.1 percent year on year respectively. More than half of China’s top ports saw a year-on-year drop in throughput, with only four northern ports – Qingdao Port, Rizhao Port, Tianjin Port and Dalian Port – showing an upward trend. Qingdao Port surpassed Shanghai Port for the first time, ranking third in China.
