Foreigners from Thailand, South Korea and Nigeria recently learned to make wood products at Mowu Wood Workshop in Jinan, where they had a close look at traditional Chinese carpentry and were impressed by the beauty of craftsmanship and inheritance.

Lin Yu and Wang Jiage, staff members of Mowu Wood Workshop, first introduced the foreigners to the usage of the traditional carpentry tools. "My family has a lot of wood furniture, but I didn't know how it was made", said Sarida, from Thailand, "I suppose it must be very time-consuming after your introduction."

Lin and Wang decided to teach the foreigners to make a stool, which needs simple skills and is easy for new hands. However, the stool is not an easy task for the foreigners. " I thought it was easy to make a stool. After experiencing how to make it by myself, I believe it is really hard and elaborate. " said Buahem, also from Thailand. With the teachers' help and guidance, they did not give up and learned step by step to make a stool.

After cutting, gluing, polishing, painting and a series of working procedures, the small stools took shape. The foreigners worked very carefully and won the affirmation of the teachers.

"I haven't done this before. It is really interesting. These materials are natural and I fell in love with natural things." Youngeon from South Korea said excitedly. "I really enjoy the whole process of hand-made carpentry. Handmade products are much better than those made by machines."
