A vivid and interesting class on paper-cutting was given to a group of foreign teachers and students recently in Jining, east China's Shandong province.

Ren Haicheng, a famous paper-cut master, first introduced the paper-cut culture of the Chinese nation, and showed some of his works, dazzling the foreign students on the spot.

"Would you please teach us how to cut out such beautiful works?" a student from Russia asked in Chinese.

Ren first showed the students how to make a hat by cutting a piece of red paper. Under the instruction of the teacher, some of the students succeeded in making a hat with scissors. "This hat will bring you good luck," said Ren, adding "Paper-cutting is time-consuming and requires a lot of practice."

The teacher cut out a couple of paper-cuts for window decoration in just a few minutes, which inspired the students' enthusiasm for creation. They started their own "journey of paper-cutting": butterflies, rabbits, fish, each with vivid and unique patterns and full of life.

"I like paper-cuts and Chinese culture," said Hu Fuming , a student from Indonesia, while showeing his paper-cuts to the reporter. "I like Chinese food, my favorite are Chinese pancake, hotpot and the spicy hotpot in my school", he added introducing his favorite Chinese food.

To promote Chinese culture and serve the Belt and Road Initiative, Shandong Polytechnic College, taking full advantage of its location in the birthplace of Confucian culture, launched the Confucius and Mencius cultural festival for overseas students in 2016.
