Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies unveiled in Qufu, Shandong

Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies was inaugurated officially in Nishan Town of Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius, on August 25, 2019. It marks the establishment of the physical platform on global Confucian studies.

The headquarters of Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies is located in Nishan Town of Qufu, with numerous branches to be built at home and abroad. The sub-centers and the headquarters will jointly undertake major scientific research projects, cultivate high-level talents and organize academic activities.

Chen Lai, dean of the Academy of Chinese Learning of Tsinghua University, said that Qufu is the cradle of Confucianism and it’s the best choice to locate the center here. “The development of world Confucianism in the new era will set out again from here,” he added.

After the establishment of the Nishan World Center for Confucian Studies, it will tap into the connotation of Confucianism, lead the development direction of Confucian studies, and build Nishan into a highland for Confucian studies and academic exchanges.

More than 350 people from the Ministry of Education, Shandong Provincial People's Government, relevant universities, as well as representatives of Confucian experts and descendants of Confucius attended the inaugural conference.
