The 2019 Yantai International Coastal Festival kicked off in Yantai, a coastal city in East China's Shandong province, on July 11. More than 300 guests from home and abroad attended the opening ceremony.

Hosted by the municipal publicity department and the culture and tourism bureau of Yantai, the festival is designed to promote the city's coastal culture and tourism industry.

The opening ceremony, themed on "amazing Beijing Opera", highlights the cultural implications of Yantai being the port of Beijing Opera and one of the world's seven wine coasts.

Yantai, the fairyland coast, boasts a unique vitality, comfortable environment and rich natural resources, providing people living here with pleasant living conditions.

As the starting point of the maritime silk road, Yantai has been an important port connecting world trade since ancient times. Today, Yantai is welcoming guests from all over the world with an open attitude.

Yantai launched the urban literature and art renaissance plan at the opening ceremony, recruiting artists from all over the world for art collection and creation in Yantai.

One of the supporting activities, a large-scale media interview activity was held from June 11 to 15. The second interview activity themed on "exploring the coastal life of Yantai" begins on July 12. Journalists will conduct a detailed investigation and record the culture, natural resources and cultural life of the city.

With the theme of "Hi! Yantai", the festival will last for three months and sets up 33 boutique activities in four sections: coastal art, coastal gourmet food, coastal leisure and coastal sports in addition to the opening ceremony.

From July 12, activities at panel venues will start in succession including the electronic music festival in Laishan district, guzheng music festival in Muping district and cultural gourmet food festival in Penglai county-level city. A grand carnival is to be staged in Yantai.
