The appearance of some new night economic modes, from the only 24-hour bookstore in Shandong, to the first talk show club and various theme bars and cafes, provides more choices for Qingdao citizens to spend their night life and injects more vitality to the city's night economy.

Shinan district is the most concentrated area of bars in Qingdao. Dozens of bars compete here on Xianggang Zhonglu, around Minjiang Road and in the area of Zhonglian Square.

In 2016, VENU Bar opened on Macao Road in Shinan district, aiming at high-end consumers. After the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Qingdao, the Fushan Bay light show has become one of the most attractive landscapes of Qingdao, attracting huge crowds of visitors.

"The 500- square- meter terrace of our bar is the best place to enjoy the light show, and many regulars take friends from other places to watch it" , said Zhang Yian, marketing director of the bar.

The world's tenth Martini terrace, introduced by VENU Bar, was put into operation since May 17. Jointly operated by VENU Bar and Martini, the terrace will host regular entertainment parties on the theme of freedom, sharing and passion.

Lolita Bar, located on Minjiang Road, is run by two post 1990s moms. In order to stand out from other cafes and bars, they combine the business of cafe and bar, conduct differentiated management and share customers.

Chen Guoyong, general manager of Qingdao Shengshi Jinnian Catering Co., LTD., has worked in the entertainment industry for more than 10 years, and participated in the establishment of well-known bar brands in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chongqing and other places. The company plans to build two 24-hour, multi-format entertainment places in Shinan district which are expected to open in October.

Besides bars, there are also 24-hour bookstores in Qingdao where people can spend their night life.

MYD Reading Space, located on Xianggang Zhonglu, is the first and only 24-hour bookstore in Shandong province. Since its opening on July 18, 2014, MYD Reading Space has gone through great waves and became one of the few 24-hour bookstores in China. In 2016, it turned a deficit to a profit after adjusting its operation strategy.

"In the process of operation, we found that the main consumers of our bookstore are young people, and their main purpose of coming to a 24-hour bookstore is not to buy books, but to enjoy an artistic and quiet environment." said Zhang Lei, vice general manager of the bookstore. In 2016, MYD Reading Space underwent upgrading and transformation, replacing the decoration with a fresh artist style and innovating books, cultural and creative products, drinks and cultural activities. At the same time, a young team with an average age of less than 30 were approved to manage the store in order to get a better understanding of the consumption psychology of the young people.

Liu Wenchuan, born in 1989, is the owner of the bookstore. Under his leadership, the bookstore has greatly increased the proportion of original English books and creative products made in Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition to regular activities such as reading parties and meet the writer event, activities such as flower arrangement, sand painting and oil painting are also held regularly to attract more readers.

MYD Reading Space will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, hoping to stimulate the spiritual and cultural consumption at night in Qingdao.

Boky’s Pub is overcrowded every other Friday night when customers are looking forward to the fabulous talk show performance.

He Tianqi, founder of the pub, is 30 years old and also the principal of an educational and training institution. In recent years, with the emergence of numerous talk shows in China, this art form wins the favor of more and more young people.

In August 2018, after he visited and learned from some talk show companies in Shanghai, He Tianqi opened the first talk show club in Qingdao, and held its first open performance in the following month.

In less than a year, membership of the Sanshiba talk show club has risen to 60 with 3,000 loyal audiences. Club members include civil servants, students, hosts and people from other walks of life.

"One of the most important reasons why young people enjoy nightlife is that working during the day is stressful and going to bars at night is a relief." said He Tianqi, "in the past, Qingdao residents can only spend the night in bars drinking, dancing and singing. Now, with talk shows, the nightlife is greatly enriched. That is an important reason why our shows are so popular among local residents."
