The China Railway Express, also known as the "Belt and Road on rail," is driving China's efforts to boost connectivity with Eurasian markets. It is enhancing logistics and freight services and accelerating the flow of investment and technology as well as people-to-people exchange.

The train service was launched in March 2011. Back then, the route began from Chongqing in southwest China and ended in the German city of Duisburg, crossing Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland.

By the end of February 2019, the China Railway Express has connected 60 Chinese cities with 50 cities across 15 European countries, with over 14,000 cargo trains on the network.

Today, the China Railway Express reaches London, one of the busiest cities in Europe, and the continent's commodity center of Madrid, the most distant stop along the intercontinental route. Russia, Germany and Poland have the most participating cities on the network's routes.

Electronic products, machinery and clothing are popular goods transported from China to Europe while cars, auto parts, wood, beverages and alcohol are carried in the opposite direction.
