Shandong sees 13% growth in foreign trade to BRI countries

According to the statistics of Qingdao customs and Jinan customs, the import and export volume of Shandong Province to the countries along the Belt and Road reached 127.22 billion yuan, up 13 percent over the same period of last year, which was higher than the overall growth rate of import and export of the whole province by 7.9 percentage points, accounting for 27.8% of the total value of foreign trade of the whole province in the same period, and an increase of 1.9 percentage points over the same period of last year.

Statistics show that in the first quarter of this year, the province's import and export to ASEAN, Russia and India reached 50.2 billion yuan, 20.96 billion yuan and 9.84 billion yuan, respectively, with an increase of 9%, 15.3% and 25.4% respectively. The three accounted for 63.7% of Shandong's import and export value to countries along the Belt and Road in the same period. During the same period, Shandong's imports and exports to Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Yemen and Mongolia developed rapidly, with the growth rate more than doubling.

In terms of export commodities, in the first quarter, Shandong exported 23.54 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products to countries along the Belt and Road, up 16.5%, accounting for 33.4% of Shandong's export value to countries along the Belt and Road in the same period. During the same period, Shandong exported 7.61 billion yuan of labor-intensive products to the above-mentioned markets, up 12.1%. Exports of steel in Shandong totaled 7.35 billion yuan, up 10.5 percent.

In terms of import commodities, the province imported 24.45 billion yuan of crude oil from countries along the Belt and Road in the first quarter, an increase of 29%, 6.94 billion yuan of mechanical and electrical products with an increase of 7.4%, and 5.24 billion yuan of agricultural products with an increase of 34%.
