Jinan, Qingdao named most attractive Chinese cities

The 2018 "Charming China -- the Most Attractive Chinese Cities in the Eyes of Foreign Talents" was released at Shenzhen Forum of the 17th Conference on International Exchange of Professionals on April 14, 2019.

Shanghai, Beijing, Hefei, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Qingdao, Tianjin, Xi 'an and Wuhan were selected as the top 10 cities. Xiamen, Nanjing, Urumqi, Guangzhou, Xuzhou, Haikou, Kunming, Jinan, Dalian and Chengdu were selected as the most promising cities in 2018.

The theme activity "Charming China -- the Most Attractive Chinese Cities in the Eyes of Foreign Talents" has been held successfully for 9 years since 2010. It aims to reveal the attractiveness of major Chinese cities to foreign experts in China through indicators such as the working, living and related policy and environment factors of foreign talents in China.

The theme activity in 2018 received 239 signed votes from foreign experts including Nobel Prize winners, Turing Award winners, experts winning the Friendship Award of the Chinese Government, and selected experts of high-end foreign expert program, and 2,815 signed votes from ordinary foreign experts. Foreign netizens voted online through the website of China Daily, WeChat public account of International Talent magazine and WeChat public account of "China Talent Attraction", and received a total of 94,849 electronic votes.

This year’s event has a strong lineup, including Konstantin Novoselov, the winner of 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics, Arieh Warshel, the 2013 Nobel laureate in chermistry, Edvard I Moser, the 2014 Noble physiology or medicine prize winner, Michael Warren Young, the 2017 Noble physiology or medicine prize winner, and Leslie G. Valiant, the 2010 Turing Award recipient.
