Shanghai held the first Huashen Festival in Guyi Garden, Jiading district, on March 23, featuring peony blossoms as its star attraction.

The one-month festival was organized following the traditional celebrations of the birthday of all flowers in ancient China. It includes a series of events such as themed flower exhibitions, pingtan performances and lectures on flowers.

The garden has some 2,000 peonies of 100 species in the ground, in pots and as part of landscapes. The first batch of peony blossoms in pots are now in full bloom and the peonies planted in the ground are expected to have their blossoms in April.

According to Shanghai Park Management Service Center, locals can vote for the "Top 12 flowers in Shanghai" on WeChat accounts such as shanghaifabu and shanghaihuaxun. Winners will be promoted and marked in the gardens.

Located in Nanxiang town in Jiading, Guyi Garden was one of the most famous gardens in South China during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the largest of the five classic gardens in Shanghai.
