Shandong strives for more sanitary cities and towns

According to the news conference held Thursday morning, Shandong has built 30 sanitary cities in total including 15 prefecture-level cities and 15 county-level cities, ranking the third in China. At the same time, 36 national sanitary towns (counties), 16 provincial sanitary cities, 47 provincial sanitary counties, and 12,318 provincial sanitary villages have been built in the province. In addition, 6 cities have completed the evaluation and are waiting to be named, and 185 counties and towns have entered the evaluation process.

Ma Lixin, member of the leading Party group and deputy director of Shandong Provincial Health Commission, said that the National Patriotic Health Campaign Office designated Jinan, Yantai and Weihai as the pilot national health cities in 2016, and in 2017 Shandong confirmed 20 pilot healthy cities (counties), 60 pilot healthy towns and 137 pilot healthy villages including Zibo and Dongying. Meanwhile, Shandong has been actively constructing the healthy cells projects such as Healthy Family and Healthy Campus, carrying out various health education and promotion activities, and promoting the in-depth development of healthy cities and towns. Shandong is one of the provinces with the largest number of national healthy pilot cities and outstanding achievements of healthy cells construction.

Ma said that the target of the patriotic health work of Shandong is to promote the construction of sanitary city across the province, strive to improve the quality and expand the coverage, promote the comprehensive improvement of environmental hygiene in urban and rural areas and push forward the development of healthy cities and towns and a healthy Shandong. By 2020, the proportion of national healthy towns and counties and provincial-level healthy villages in Shandong will reach above 8% and above 30% respectively.
