The University of Cambridge has issued a statement confirming that it has been accepting scores from China's college entrance exams for several years now.

The statement, posted on the University of Cambridge's Sina Weibo account, comes after media reports suggested that the university recently announced its acceptance of the Gaokao scores.

Earlier reports claimed students whose scores rank above 0.1% in their provinces can apply for undergraduate studies at the university, which is a institution for many Chinese high school students.

The university emphasized it will not only judge the applicants from scores, but their comprehensive performance in school.

Apart from Cambridge, six other British universities - University of Birmingham, University of Leicester, University of Kent, University of Dundee, Queens's University in Belfast and Cardiff University - also recognize China's college entrance examination.

Gaokao scores are accepted by colleges and universities from more than 20 countries around the world.
