Recently, more than ten international students were invited to Huiquan Agricultural Ecological Park in Zhangqiu to learn about the development of Shandong's modern agriculture through field visits, where they also had in-depth discussions and exchanges.

They first visited greenhouses full of strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables and got an insight into cultivation techniques including soilless cultivation, nutrient soil cultivation and water planting as well as refined cultivation and management methods. Having visited the greenhouses and learned about the modern agriculture, the international students also picked and tasted some fruit and vegetables. Najeeb from Afghanistan said he liked the fruit grown here."It is fresh and delicious."

Afghanistan is a country with agriculture as its economic pillar. "Though we have vast, fertile land, unlike from the cultivation methods used here, we adopt the extensive management of the western countries," said Najeeb. "Here people can pick fruits and vegetables, go sightseeing and have a taste of these pollution-free fruits. That is great! People feel relaxed here."

Eunice from Uganda was very active in the activity. She took photos and videos at nearly every site, and frequently discussed them with her friends and staff members. "This activity is very meaningful to me," she said, "I only got a very brief understanding of Shandong's modern agriculture, but I believe I will learn more about it in future."

Qu Cheng, a major of China studies, was deeply impressed by this activity. As an overseas Chinese student from Brazil, he had a deeper understanding of the differences between Chinese and western cultures and worked as an interpreter for his school mates.

"As a China studies major, I usually learn about China's social development. This is the first time for me to take a close look at China's agriculture," he said, "It is really amazing to see the advanced agricultural technology and high modernization here."

Most of the agriculture in Brazil is done on a large scale, and there is a lack of this kind of refined farming, from the point of view of Qu Cheng. He hoped that Brazil will develop agriculture in this way in the future.
