The Observer II, China's first missile-carrying unmanned surface vehicle (USV), had its public debut on Tuesday at the 12th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China 2018, in the southern port city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province.

Jointly developed by private domestic military enterprises and state-owned military research institutes, the unmanned boat can undertake reconnaissance and precision strike missions. It can also be used to issue patrol warnings in waters around islands and estuaries.

As well as being able to accurately strike small and medium-sized targets at sea, it can provide support to military amphibious assault units by launching strikes on mobile and fixed targets in coastal areas.
