A hospital in Zhejiang's provincial capital, Hangzhou, has introduced a facial recognition system for patients.

The new technology gives patients the ability to deal with payments, doctors appointments, as well as their schedule for diagnosis to be shortened to as quickly as 30 seconds.

Similar steps for medical care could often take hours.

The system is available to all the patients, regardless of whether they have health insurance.

For those who are registered with the city's health insurance system, registration is not required for the facial recognition system.

Those without health insurance, such as those who live outside of Hangzhou, need to open an Alipay account and link their information to the local Public Security Bureau before they can utilize the technology.

Payments incurred at the hospital will be deducted through their Alipay accounts automatically.

Yu Xiaojun, the vice president of the hospital, says the technology makes things much more efficient.

Public security stats suggest the facial recognition system makes processing information through the hospital 99.99 percent accurate.
