Nine Chinese mainland cities hit the ranking: Shanghai (5), Beijing (8), Shenzhen (12), Guangzhou (19), Qingdao (31), Tianjin (78), Chengdu (79), Hangzhou (89) and Dalian (100).

The 24th edition of the Global Financial Centres Index was jointly published by Z/Yen Group in London and the China Development Institute in Shenzhen. The ranking is an aggregate of indices from five key areas: "business environment", "financial sector development", "infrastructure factors", "human capital", "reputation and general factors". Generally speaking, there were steady increases for the financial centres in mainland China, reflecting the continuous rise of the standing of the Chinese financial centres in the world and the increasing awareness of more and more Chinese financial centres by the world financial professionals.
