A local court in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, accepted the case against Ziroom over the death of a tenant who was an employee of Alibaba Group, reports thepaper.cn.

The man, surnamed Wang, was employed by Alibaba Group on April 19 of this year and was healthy based on the physical examination.

However, Wang was diagnosed with acute leukemia by the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital on July 11 and died two days later.

After Wang's death, his wife found the Ziroom apartment that Wang rented in Hangzhou had excess amounts of formaldehyde. An aerial detection was conducted by a qualified company certified with China Metrology Accreditation.

With the evidence of excessive amounts of formaldehyde as the cause of his leukemia, Wang's wife sued Ziroom.

The Binjiang District People's Court in Hangzhou accepted the case, and a trial is set for September 27.

On September 1, Ziroom issued a statement, saying it will cooperate with work of the judicial authorities and respect the ruling of the court.

This is not the first time that the apartments of Ziroom, one of China's major apartment rental service providers, were exposed by media and tenants of formaldehyde problems, according to thepaper.cn report.
