Typhoon Yagi hits 23,400 hectares of crops in Shandong

According to the Department of Civil Affairs of Shandong Province, Typhoon Yagi has affected 253,700 people in Shandong and damaged 23,400 hectares of crops by 16:00 pm yesterday.

It’s reported that Typhoon Yagi left most of cities in Shandong flooded. Over 40 towns (streets) in 6 cities were affected by the typhoon to different extents.

Ginger, taro, pumpkin and kidney bean in Weifang, peanut and millet in Tai’an, and soybean, cotton and corn in Jining and Heze are among the crops affected. Some trees in Weifang and Tai’an were snapped by the heavy wind and a part of houses, roads and bridges suffered different levels of damage.

Among the 23,400 hectares of damaged crops, 8,429 hectares were disaster-affected while the left fails to produce grains. 26 houses collapsed, 11 badly damaged and 157 lightly damaged.

After the disaster, a working group formed by related departments has been dispatched to the disaster area to assess the disaster situation, provide emergency relief, organize disaster-affected people to engage in agricultural production so as to reduce the loss from disaster.
