Zhu Sizi, a female survivor of the Nanjing Massacre, died at the age of 98 on Wednesday, according to the official Weibo account of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, reports Jiangsu News Online.

Zhu was 18 years old when the Japanese invaders occupied Nanjing, a city in east China's Jiangsu Province, on December 13, 1937. In December and January, Japanese troops killed 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers. August 15 marks the 73rd anniversary of Japan's surrender, which brought an end to World War II.

In an interview she gave seven years ago, Zhu recalled her family hiding in a three-square-meter cave when the invaders came. To avoid being killed or raped by the Japanese invaders, Zhu and her family hide in the cave for two and a half months. Her sister-in-law was killed after she left the cave.
