“This is really a precious learning opportunity. It’s rare, both at home and abroad, to bring so many music masters to teach in one city,” said Lin Shaoliang, a world top violinist. The five-day Shinan Wind Music (Bassoon) Art Week kicked off on July 16 in Badaguan Chapel of Shinan District in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province. More than 700 Bassoon educators, players and enthusiasts participated in the event.

Fourteen music masters and three world-famous art troupes, including Hans Agreda, principal contrabassoon for Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra and Axel Benoit, principal bassoon for Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, were invited to the event. A total of 15 professional academic activities have been held during the art week.

Li Lan, a professor of Central Conservatory of Music, served as the artistic director of the art week. He said that in order to provide students opportunities to get close to the master instead of just listening their music, five masters were invited every day to give a four-hour face-to-face instruction. Besides, there are three concerts by these masters from afternoon to evening every day. These intensive activities have benefited the students a lot.

“I was really inspired by the advice from the masters,” said Zhu Huachen, a student from Jinan.

In recent years, various art activities have been held in Shinan District, which have effectively improved the development of art education, especially the wind music, in the district. More and more students in Qingdao, who learn wind music, have been admitted to famous music universities.

For instance, Guo Yuhan, a primary school graduate, received the admission from the attached middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music. Wang Yiqiang, the director of Shinan Education and Sports Bureau, said that the event provided a platform to further increase the affection of music lovers and deepen the art education of Shinan District.
