China’s first Intelligent Shipping Technological Innovation and Comprehensive Experiment Base was inaugurated in Qingdao Oceantec Valley in the namesake city of Shandong on May 18, 2018.

The base, jointly built by China Waterborne Transport Research Institute and Navigation Brilliance (Qingdao) Technology Co.,Ltd, is committed to the independent innovation of and research on the core technologies of intelligent waterborne transport.

The pilot demonstration area of the base covers an area of 1,500 mu with an investment of 15 billion yuan, including intelligent shipping technological equipment research centers, intelligent shipping technological equipment testing ground, satellite earth stations, and so on.

The promoter region of the base, covering a land of 750 mu, is scheduled to start construction in late July.

According to the industrial layout and planning, Qingdao will develop a new business type of research, testing and manufacturing unmanned transport freighter and make efforts to achieve the innovation of core technologies as well as produce and assemble locally in fields like intelligent machine, communication, navigation, network and photo-electricity.

It is estimated that the base will inject impetus into an 100 billion-yuan shipping industrial chain.
