It’s reported that the newly-built high-speed railway station of Jinan will be named Jinan East Railway Station, the old Jinan East Railway Station will be renamed Daminghu Station. This is the first official response to the name change of Jinan East Railway Station from the railway authority.

Jinan-Qingdao High-speed Railway under construction is expected to be put into operation before the end of the year. The allegedly new east railway station is built as the starting station of the railway and now it is formally named Jinan East Railway Station.

Jinan West Railway Station

No duplication of name is allowed among stations within China’s railway system. After the decision on the new Jinan East Railway Station, Jinan Railway Bureau announced on April 11 the old Jinan East Railway Station renamed Daminghu Station, which will come into force from June 1, 2018.

Actually, the name of the existing Jinan West Railway Station was also an occupation of another railway station, the present Jixi Station. Coincidentally, its name was changed on the same day with Jinan East Railway Station but in the year of 2011.

Beyond that, Longkoushi Station of Yantai, coming into service with passenger service on January 22 this year, has also encountered with this kind of awkward situation. Why its name is not Longkou Station but Longloushi Station? In fact, there has been a Loukou Station founded in 1996 in Loukou Town of Ganzhou City, South China’s Jiangxi Province, though it is only a grade-four freight station.

Another similar case is the naming of Shandong’s Qingzhou Station. As early as 1956, Qingzhou Town of Sha County in Fujian Province named its railway station as Qingzhou Station. So Shandong’s Qingzhou Station can but named itself Qingzhoushi Station to avoid the duplication of name. But Qingzhoushi Staion was renamed Qingzhou South Station on July 20, 2008.
