Shandong pays high attention to old-age education

Shandong proposes to put more efforts into the infrastructure construction of old-age education. In order to mend the pace in innovating the development mechanism and system of education for the aged, Shandong is committed to building schools for the elderly in at least 60% towns (sub-districts) by 2020 so as to create an equal access to education for all old people.

Shandong put forwards that concentration should be put on optimizing the modern old-age educational system and structure, improving old-age educational service ability, pooling joint efforts at old-age education and strengthening theoretical research and innovation in work.

It’s reported that Shandong plans to increase the proportion of the elderly who take part in educational events regularly to 25 percent of the total aged population in cities and 20 percent in rural areas.

In respect to the allocation of educational resources, Shandong puts forward that at least one old-age school should be built in cities above the county level. Besides, 60 percent of towns (sub-districts) in Shandong should be equipped with a central school for community education, and 40 percent of villages should be equipped with community education schools that mainly involve in old-age education.

At the same time, Shandong plans to arrange full-time teachers and researchers to teach key disciplines and majors in the old-age education.

Shandong is definitely a province with a large population, especially the aged population. Latest governmental data reveal that Shandong has 20.5697 million people over 60, accounting for 20 percent of the total population.
