Shandong has made brilliant achievements in the improvement of air quality. In 2017, Shandong rewarded and subsidized 17 cities over 606.65 million yuan.

Among the 17 cities of Shandong, Dezhou claimed the top bonus winner with 50.72 million yuan. Weihai’s air quality has been up to the secondary standard for 2 years in a row and received both commendation and premium from the provincial government. This year, Weihai gets permission not to participate in the assessment of air quality for 17 cities.

In 2017, Shandong kept the lowest average concentration of PM2.5 among Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Henan. Shandong also enjoys the highest decline in the proportion of PM2.5 among the above six provinces (municipalities) since the year of 2013.

Wang Ande, secretary of the leading Party group of the Department of Environmental Protection of Shandong Province, revealed the gratifying achievements made last year in the improvement of air quality.

Wang said that Shandong will put more efforts in the environmental protection. The range of air quality assessment will be expanded to counties, districts and prefecture-level cities to tighten the net of air governance.

It’s reported that the ranking list of air quality of counties, districts and prefecture-level cities will be released in the next half year. It is expected to be another pioneering work in air governance after the award and subsidy measures.

Shandong has been putting air pollution control on the prominent place and realized a great jump of air quality improvement.

The average concentration of PM2.5, PM10, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide are 57 microgram per cubic meter, 106 microgram per cubic meter, 24 microgram per cubic meter and 37 microgram per cubic meter respectively, dropping about 13.6%, 11.7%, 31.4% and 2.6% severally year on year.

Last year, Shandong has 275.4 days in average with daytime featuring blue sky and white clouds, and nighttime featuring twinkling stars, up 26.5 days year on year.
