Shandong to build international shipping center by 2030

Shandong is striving to accelerate the construction of modern port cluster and an advanced shipping industry, according to a press conference held recently in Jinan. It’s reported that Shandong plans to establish an international shipping center by 2030 featuring highly gathered shipping resources, sound shipping service functions, excellent market circumstances, efficient modern logistics service and global shipping resource allocation capability.

As a leading province in economy and transportation, Shandong, with the country’s second-highest coastal port handling capacity, has the objective conditions for the building of an international shipping center.

Liu Fuchen, deputy director-general of the Department of Transportation of Shandong Province, said that Shandong will further enhance the supply capacity of shipping infrastructure in coastal port, intensify the construction of public sea-lane and anchorage ground, effectively improve the service ability of public wharf, give priority to the construction of the new harbor district in major coastal ports and the development of the port in the Yellow River Delta, and promote the construction of large-scale appropriated berths for crude oil carrier, LNG carrier, container, Ro-ro passenger ship and cruise ship.

At the same time, Shandong is expected to bring the construction of port collection and distribution system into the urban master planning, port master planning and other transportation-related targeted initiatives, to achieve the effective combination of various transport modes and ports.

“We will actively develop the modern shipping service industry, further strengthen the construction of shipping service clusters in Qingdao, Yantai and Rizhao, develop characteristic and high-end shipping service, adopt proactive approaches to draw the allocation of the headquarters and regional operation branches of large-scale shipping enterprises in the clusters and gather more shipping elements,” said Liu Fuchen, adding that Shandong will give full play to the governmental-led fund as well as the social capital.

In addition, Shandong will develop the cruise economy and complete the cruise service functions in Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai and Rizhao ports to establish a cruise port system with home ports, ports of departure and visiting ports.
