Seek New Development with New Economic Engines, an omnimedia interview event of Open Shandong Report series, was held in Shandong during Sept. 11 to 15. The media group with dozens of journalists from home and abroad went to five cities, Jinan, Liaocheng, Jining, Linyi and Rizhao, conducting in-depth interviews in some enterprises.

Lyu Guodong, the journalist of Russia Today (RT), is one of the members among the media group. RT is a global, round-the-clock news network that includes seven TV channels broadcasting news, current affairs and documentary content, digital platforms in six languages and a video news agency RUPTLY. Today, RT is available in more than 100 countries spanning 5 continents.

Lyu Guodong said, “During the five-day interviews, I found enterprises in Southwest Shandong Province have reached a consensus and is making efforts together on transforming the old economic growth drivers to the new.” He added that what impressed him most is that the enterprises he interviewed all take innovation as an important supporting of the enterprise’s development. Those enterprises are transforming to the new growth drivers from the old via innovative development. The campaign on the transition from the old growth drivers to the new is surging in Shandong.

Though Lyu Guodong is Chinese, he has only been to Shandong once ten years ago. And this is his first visit to the five cities for this report event. “The interview gives me a new sense of Southwest Shandong,” said Lyu, “Here is full of vigor and vitality.”

“Before I came here, I thought enterprises and people in Linyi must be barely surviving because Linyi is an old revolutionary area,” Lyu said, “But through this event, I found I was wrong. Linyi has so many high-tech entprises, and people here have a very high standard of living.”

Lyu marvels at the development mode of Quanzhuang Town of Yinshui County in Linyi. “I see the booming tourism of this town and the hot-selling organic peaches planted in Jinlong Mountain. This is a innovation in agriculture. Famers here find a new way of development.”
