Guangzhou teams with Tencent to create 'smarter city'

Authorities in Guangzhou have announced a new deal with Tencent to collaborate on the "smarter city" designs, reports the Tencent News.

This includes the spread of mobile payment options, as well as the promotion of digital industrial transformation.

Authorities say they anticipte job losses through the "transformation" process will be recouped through the "Internet-+" strategy.

As part of the new deal, Tencent will provide technical support to local companies and government, helping them to better align themselves with the Internet.

Internet+ has become a buzzword in China over the past few years. First used by Chinese entrepreneurs in the IT industry, Internet+ is a program meant to bring the internet into traditional sectors of the Chinese economy.
