The launching ceremony and press conference of the special report on “seek new development with new economic engines” was held in Jinan on Sept. 11, 2017.

Taking transition from old growth drivers to new as the leading task for economic development, Shandong is taking active measures to build itself into a national level comprehensive pilot area for such transition.

The core for pushing forward such transition is the “four new”, namely the new technology, new industry, new formats and new modes, through which “four improvements” are expected, that is the quality and efficiency improvement in traditional industry, emerging industry broadening in scale, seeking potential in cross-border integration and value promotion in brand.

Industry is the key and plays the dominant role in the transition from old economic engines to new. Shandong will make great efforts to strengthen the leading position of pillar industries and foster a number of trillion-dollar industry clusters. Breakthroughs are set to be made in ten industries such as the high-end equipment manufacturing, high-end chemical engineering and energy and raw material.

Innovation is crucial for the transition from old economic engines to new. Shandong pays special attention to developing the cutting-edge field and speeds up the implementation of innovation-driven strategy. A group of backbone enterprises will be cultivated in areas of strength.

With global vision and open mind, Shandong actively participates in the Belt and Road Initiative and works hard to synergize national strategies including the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Economic Zone and Xiong’an New Area, aiming to realize higher level opening up.

Shandong will host promotional activities in the U.S., Japan and Germany besides the Shandong Week in Hong Kong and Shandong-Taiwan Economic and Trade Fair which have been successfully held for years.
