Japan’s raindrop cakes arrive in London

The Japanese delicacy, the raindrop cake is to appear in the British capital for the first time. The clear dessert which is made into the shape of a water droplet doesn’t taste of much, but takes up the flavor of the syrup which is served with it (kuromitsu) and the roasted soybean powder.

A pop-up ramen restaurant in Chinatown will make 20 a day, so customers will have to be early to get one. Bringing this dish to London for the first time is the idea of restauranteur Fah Sundravorakul, who opened the Yamagoya restaurant after moving from Bangkok three years ago.

There’s no gelatin used in this dessert, just water and agar imported from Japan.
