2017 marks the 30th year of Shandong-Bavaria sister state/province relations. To power the economic cooperation through cultural exchanges, a media group, consisting of renowned photographers of Shandong and Bavaria, arrived at Tai’an on May 13 to cover this charming city.

It’s reported that the photography tour will last for a week in Shandong. Vice president of Bavarian Photographers Association Wolfgang Elster and member of German Photographers Association Alexander Preyer, accompanied by the honorary president of Shandong Photographers Association, Hou Heliang, will go to Jinan, Tai’an, Jining, Weifang and Qingdao to record these cities with lens.

The photographers captured Tai’an with their cameras after they experienced Taishan shadow play, a national-level intangible cultural heritage. They also visited Dai Temple, Mount Tai, and attended the worship ceremony.

The foreign photographers were favorably impressed by the urban construction and historic culture of Tai’an. Wolfgang Elster said he could feel the thousand-year-long cultural connotations as well as a strong flavor of modern life. “As a place where emperors offer sacrifice to Heaven, Tai’an has profound cultural heritage and proved itself to be a word natural and cultural heritage site.”

The hospitality of Tai’an people made the German photographers feel at home. “My trip to China has been both enjoyable and productive. Tremendous changes have taken place here beyond our imagination,” Alexander Preyer told reporters, “We have enjoyed its beautiful scenery and I’m impressed by the hospitality of people in Tai’an.”

“Watching Taishan shadow play is no doubt the climax of our trip in Shandong”, said Wolfgang Elster. “I’m happy and lucky to watch this world’s intangible cultural heritage. Its protection and inheritance is certainly something to be proud of.”
