From this year, Shandong starts to recruit tuition-free medical students in provincially-administered medical universities to cultivate general practitioners for health clinics in towns and townships. The policy is formulated for the five-year undergraduates specializing in clinical medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Apart from free tuition and accommodation, the students will be given a certain amount of subsidies. Students don’t have to pay for the tuition at the cost of six-year medical work in frontline after graduation.
According to Shandong Provincial Education Department, the province is pushing ahead the separated recruitment project of key universities to rural students, special projects of recruiting rural students in provincially-administrated key universities and filing poor rural students in vocational colleges. A total of 62 counties are included in the separated recruitment project of key universities to rural students, and the special project of college enrollment. In addition to the ahead-of-schedule admission, the undergraduate enrollment will be completed simultaneously in Shandong this year. Besides, pilots of college enrollment based on students’ comprehensive performance are making steady progress.
