Su Rong, a former vice chairman of China's top political advisory body, has been given a life sentence for taking bribes and abusing power.

A court in Jinan, east China's Shandong Province, said that Su Rong took 116 million yuan, or around 17 million US dollars, in bribes and caused great losses of state assets.

Investigation has also found that he had property holdings worth more than 80 million yuan from unknown sources.

Before taking the post of vice chairman in the top political advisory body, Su was the Party chief in east China's Jiangxi Province between 2007 and 2013.
